Hotels Near Disneyland: A Homewood Suites Review

Planning a trip to Disneyland is very different than planning one to Walt Disney World! One of the most significant differences is the availability of non-Disney hotels within walking distance to Disneyland Resort. Choosing one to stay at can be a difficult decision. For our first trip to Disneyland, we settled on the Homewood Suites by the Anaheim Resort- Convention Center. We were delighted with our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking at hotels near Disneyland. You can read my in-depth review below!

How Close is Homewood Suites to Disneyland?

When people are looking for hotels near Disneyland, it’s good to know if the hotel is actually near Disneyland!

First, the Homewood Suites is within walking distance of Disneyland Resort. Located at 2010 S Harbor Blvd in Anaheim, you can see that, according to Google Maps, it less than one mile from the hotel to the Harbor Blvd entrance to Disneyland Resort. A bonus is the availability of several places to stop for snacks and drinks along the route, including a CVS, Walgreens, 7-Eleven, and Starbucks.

The other location benefit of the Homewood Suites is that it is right next to one of Disneyland’s parking lots. The Toy Story Lot to be more precise. Although it is not advertised, you can walk into the lot and take the shuttle bus to Disneyland Resort.

You can see the location of the Homewood Suites in yellow. The blue line illustrates the walking path into the parking lot. During our visit, the Toy Story Lot was under construction. They removed the center bus stops because they built a bigger bus-loading area towards the back of the lot (as indicated by the green rectangle).

One of the best reasons to take the bus from the Toy Story lot is the ability to go through security before you get to Disneyland. Security tends to move more quickly versus going through it at the parks. However, this option is only available when Disneyland expects to have larger crowds, like weekends and holidays.

The Rooms at Homewood Suites in Anaheim

One of the reasons we love staying at a Homewood Suites is the space in the room. We stayed in a one-bedroom with two queen beds in the bedroom and a pullout sofa bed in the living room. The living room also had a small dining table. The galley kitchen was equipped with a full-size refrigerator, microwave, and two-burner stovetop. We had enough space in the living room for the pullout bed and a small inflatable mattress (one of my favorite travel items). I think you could easily fit a twin-sized air mattress as well.

The room was clean and comfortable. Like most hotel rooms, the fixtures have some scratches and dings in them. But unless you receive a newly renovated room, that is to be expected anywhere. The furniture did not feel run-down, though.

We found the queen beds to be comfortable, but the pullout sofa bed was not. Liam did fine on it, but an adult would probably find it to be uncomfortable.

Our only other complaint about the room is the sink in the bathroom area. The sink itself is a little tall and hard for young kids to be able to complete their nightly routine without making a huge mess. Also, the faucet was in such an awkward place. Whenever we washed our hands, we got water all over the back of the sink. A larger faucet would do wonders to fix this!

Breakfast and Manager’s Reception at Homewood Suites

We were very pleased with the food selection and quality at both the breakfasts and manager’s receptions.

Breakfast had many options to choose from. Every day, there were scrambled eggs, bacon, and a starch, like pancakes or waffles. In addition to the standards, they offered something different. One day were fixings to make a breakfast sandwich, which included biscuits and sausage patties. Another day there were small omelets and a potato hash. My personal favorite was the chicken enchiladas with rice and beans! As someone who eats dinner for breakfast, this was a perfect option for me.

The manager’s reception is offered Monday-Thursday nights. During our stay, we only attended two nights. The first night was more of an appetizer selection. Various cheese, vegetables, breadsticks, and salad were offered. Of course, the reception includes wine and beer options.

The second evening, the same vegetables and salad choices were offered. However, this evening included flatbread pizza, in both cheese and pepperoni options. We were able to make a dinner out of the available food before we headed back to parks!

We ate our meals during popular times, but it never seemed to affect the availability of the food. The kitchen staff was consistently checking to see if the trays needed to be refilled. At one point, they were out of bananas. We asked a member of the staff if they had any more in the back. They sure did! She came out with multiple bunches of bananas to add to the fruit bowl.

The Amenities at Homewood Suites in Anaheim

If you plan on spending some of your downtime at the hotel, there are plenty of ways to entertain yourself.

First, of course, is the pool area. They have a heated pool and hot tub outside. Although it is adjacent to the parking lot, the landscaping and wall give it privacy. Right next to the pool are seating areas that include fire pits, perfect for a cool evening. Also in the pool area are a few grills. If you plan on making a few meals at the hotel, consider some grilled options! The hotel also has a fitness room and arcade, for those interested.

When we travel, we like the option of doing laundry. The Homewood Suites in Anaheim had a decent laundry room located on the first floor. I was easily able to get a load in one evening while we were having dinner. At the time of our stay, both the washer and dryers cost $2.00 and took quarters only. The front desk was able to exchange my dollar bills for quarters.

Other Tips and Things to Know

I want to note a few things about the hotel, so you are prepared for your stay.

  • Parking Fees: Like all of the hotels in the area, Homewood Suites charges a nightly parking rate. It’s on par with others in the area, so we weren’t sticker-shocked at the price.
  • Hotel Layout: The hotel is oddly shaped, putting some of the rooms a fair distance from the lobby and dining area. We were lucky and had a room the faced the street and entrance, so it was a quick walk back to our room at the end of the day. But a family may find the walk to the back of the hotel very long, especially after a day at Disneyland. My advice would be to request a room closer to the lobby.
  • Friendly Staff: I would like to acknowledge how friendly the staff was at the hotel. Everyone from the front desk to the kitchen staff to the cleaning staff were very nice and easy to interact with. Hotel staff can make or break your stay, and the employees we met made our stay very pleasant!

If You Are Looking at Hotels Near Disneyland, Homewood Suites is a Good Choice

Overall, we were pleased with our stay at the Homewood Suites in Anaheim. Its location is excellent, especially its proximity to the Disneyland parking lot and shuttles. We had no complaints and enjoyed our breakfasts and reception meals during our stay. Also, we stayed on the second floor and never noticed any noise above us, which is unusual for such a family-oriented hotel!
