Although it is a part of the Washington’s Crossing Historic Park, Bowman’s Hill Tower doesn’t quite fit into the “historical” category. Built from 1929-1931, the 125-foot tower is not nearly as old as the other buildings in the park. But that doesn’t make it any less impressive!

17. Mercer Museum, Doylestown

Located in the heart of Bucks County, Doylestown is a small town with some of the most unique museums in the area. Henry Mercer, a local archaeologist and tile maker, built his home, business, and museum to house his collection of 19th-century farming equipment, all from concrete.

The Mercer Museum is where Henry Mercer’s collection resides. The building itself feels like a fun maze and even more like an MC Escher painting, with tools and furniture from the 19th century hanging from every surface. Even the ceiling!

While there are a few rooms dedicated to kids’ learning, children tend to find the whole museum a fun place to explore. They’ll even love following Rollo’s (Mercer’s dog) paw prints around the museum to learn more fun facts about the era.

18. Fonthill Castle, Doylestown

Just like his museum, Henry Mercer’s home, Fonthill Castle, is equally fun to explore. Visiting this unique structure is one of our favorite things to do in Doylestown!

The house was created from concrete and built around an old farmhouse. The walls are decorated with beautiful, colorful tiles made at Mercer’s tile works next door.

Art museums aren’t usually at the top of one’s list of things to do with kids, but we love the Michener Museum. Located directly across the street from the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, PA, the Michener Museum is housed in the old Bucks County Prison building.
