Short History of Bowman’s Hill Tower in New Hope, PA
Bowman’s Hill Tower did not exist during the American Revolution. It was built over 150 years after George Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware.
So, why is it there?
Bowman’s Hill Tower was built on what may have been a lookout point for Washington and his troops, but even that is up for debate.
No matter the history, Bowman’s Hill Tower was erected to honor George Washington and commemorate his troop’s presence in the area. Plus, it makes for a great place to look out over Bucks County and New Jersey.
The tower was constructed from 1929-1931 using stone from the hill and local quarries. It stands 125 feet tall and offers views of up to 14 miles of the surrounding area. It’s a popular activity in Bucks County and one of the top things to do in New Hope.

Location and Parking
Bowman’s Hill Tower is located at 1 Tower Road in New Hope, PA. The drive to the parking area is up a steep and winding road, but it is such a pretty drive, especially in the fall.
A large parking lot at the top of the hill holds about 40 cars. It has never been difficult finding parking. However, if you’re having trouble finding a spot, wait a few minutes. People won’t be at the tower for too long.
Hours and Admission
Bowman’s Hill Tower is open seasonally—typically on weekends in March and then daily from April through October.
Admission to Bowman’s Hill Tower is $7 per person for anyone over six years old. Active-duty military can visit for FREE. You can purchase admission ahead of time or on location when you arrive.
Amenities
There are some picnic tables and port-a-johns in the parking lot of Bowman’s Hill Tower.
Climbing to the Top of Bowmans’ Hill Tower
To get to the top of Bowman’s Hill Tower, you’ll have to climb 125 steps up the 125-foot-tall tower. The steps are made up of stone and circle around a defunct elevator shaft.
However, the last dozen steps to access the top are in a tight space. Larger and taller individuals might find it challenging to complete those last steps. You can get a good idea of the space from the photo below.
There is an elevator in Bowman’s Hill Tower, but it has been broken for a while now. Even with the elevator, guests still have to climb about 10-12 steps in a tight area.
The Views From Bowman’s Hill Tower
Bowman’s Hill Tower boasts views up to 14 miles on a clear day. From the tower, you can look over beautiful Bucks County and across to Hunterdon County, New Jersey and Lambertville (including Goat Hill Overlook).
You’ll also see the Delaware River as it snakes between the two states. It’s a beautiful sight and worth climbing those steps!
